+++ 2009 Mid-Season update+++
The Saints have had a very good first of the season (P4 W3 D1 L0, rained off 1) and a strong blend of experience and youth take on Dunsfold on Sunday looking to maintain the unbeaten record.
Last week, the Saints put on a fine batting display against Tillington thanks to strong foundation set by the 80-odd opening father/son partnership of Tim and Harry Syder. Harry, just back from his gap year with as expected beard and Ryan Sidebottom haircut, went on to score a quick-fire 86 and with the likes of Olly Burns and Ru Lockwood pummelling the tiring attack (Mr Lockwood's wagon wheel would only need 1 degree....cow corner!), the Saints put on a commanding 250 all out. Sadly, the Tillington batsmen again showed little stomach for a battle after some early wickets and shut up shop with 20 overs to go...not even a 9 man slip cordon could entice them to open up! Lesson for next year - demand a Limited Overs match!!
We now have a full team for this Sunday and also for the final match of the season against the mighty Brook, but we still have 4 places available for Jez Rees' game on Sunday 10th August against the Broadhalfpenny Brigands Cricket Club at Hambledon (http://www.broadhalfpennydown.com/index.aspx?page=Home). This is a historic ground where the first ever game of cricket was reportedly played and patrons of the Club include the likes of Richie Benaud, Sobers, Botham, Viv Richards etc. There is a great lunch with barrelled beer etc. This is a great game - so please do come forward asap to Jez Rees (Jeremy.Rees@eco.co.uk) - any of you yet to play a game this is a great way to start your Saints career!!!
