Saints Cricket Club

The Saints CC is a nomadic cricket club which was established in 1950 by a group of ex-Naval players based in Portsmouth. We have a good reputation for playing quality cricket and even attracting some former test players: eg. Peter May, John Snow & more recently Justin Langer (though this is by no means a reflection of our average ability, which ranges from very good to pub cricketers! The club has currently over 50 playing members and we normally try and play about 10 matches per year.

The fixture list has been built over the last 50 years for the most attractive fixtures (main requirement is for a pub to be within walking distance of the square!) and we play other like-minded clubs in the South East, taking in some of the most picturesque and famous grounds including Hambledon CC, the ground on which the game of cricket was invented. We play games at Midhurst, Dunsfold and Tillington in Sussex, as well as a match against the Royal Greenjackets in Winchester and a couple of fixtures in the Cotswolds.

Although the quality of cricket is mixed, we always try to win our matches which are played with a great deal of fun. There is often a tour to Yorkshire, and there is always a traditional end of season dinner which is held at The Turf Club in London, during which caps and prizes for outstanding play are awarded. Most recent overseas Tours have been to Tobago and South Africa - prior to that the Saints have toured the likes of Hong Kong, Portugal and the Netherlands!

We operate a 'match manager' system; the match manager being responsible for selecting the team and ensuring that we have the right numbers to take the field. members are included on an email distribution list and they just respond to the match manager if they fancy a game.

'Nomadic cricket as it should be!'
